Kunstsilo
Kristiansand, Norway
Architecture: Mestres WÃ¥ge, Mendoza Partida, and BAX Studio
Â
Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, Norway, is a striking example of adaptive reuse, transforming a 1935 grain silo into a contemporary art museum. Opened in May 2024, the 38-meter-tall structure now houses the world's largest collection of Nordic modernist art, including the Tangen Collection. Architects Mestres WÃ¥ge, Mendoza Partida, and BAX Studio preserved the silo's industrial character while introducing modern elements, such as a central atrium formed by hollowed-out silos and a rooftop bar offering panoramic views. This fusion of historical architecture and modern design has established Kunstsilo as a cultural landmark in Southern Norway.
