Kunstsilo
Kristiansand, Norway
Architecture: Mestres Wåge, Mendoza Partida, and BAX Studio
Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, Norway, is a striking example of adaptive reuse, transforming a 1935 grain silo into a contemporary art museum. Opened in May 2024, the 38-meter-tall structure now houses the world's largest collection of Nordic modernist art, including the Tangen Collection. Architects Mestres Wåge, Mendoza Partida, and BAX Studio preserved the silo's industrial character while introducing modern elements, such as a central atrium formed by hollowed-out silos and a rooftop bar offering panoramic views. This fusion of historical architecture and modern design has established Kunstsilo as a cultural landmark in Southern Norway.
